Some proposal stories feel like they were made for the California coastline, and Drew and Hannah’s engagement session at Windansea Beach in La Jolla was exactly that.
While visiting San Diego on vacation, Drew planned a special surprise for Hannah at one of the city’s most beautiful beaches. With the Pacific Ocean stretching behind them, golden California light surrounding them, and the waves rolling onto the shore, Windansea Beach became the perfect setting for a moment they’ll never forget.
A Surprise Proposal at Windansea Beach
Windansea Beach is one of those places that instantly feels special. Tucked along the La Jolla coastline, the beach is known for its rugged shoreline, iconic surf shack, dramatic rocks, and incredible Pacific Ocean views.
For Drew and Hannah, it was the perfect backdrop for a surprise proposal.
What made the moment even more meaningful was that they were already in San Diego enjoying a vacation together. Hannah thought they were simply spending another beautiful day exploring the coast. Drew, however, had something much bigger planned.
As they made their way along the beach, Drew found the perfect moment to ask Hannah to marry him.
And, of course, she said yes.
Capturing the Moment They Became Engaged
One of my favorite things about photographing proposals is being able to preserve all the little moments surrounding the big question.
The anticipation.
The surprise.
The nervous excitement.
That split second when someone realizes what is happening.
And then the joy that follows.
Drew and Hannah’s Windansea Beach proposal had all of it. Once the secret was out, the two of them were able to slow down and celebrate together while we explored the beach for their newly engaged portraits.
The result was a collection of photographs that feels natural, joyful, and completely them.
Romantic La Jolla Engagement Photos
After the proposal, we spent some time photographing Drew and Hannah along the Windansea Beach shoreline. The combination of the Pacific Ocean, rocky coastline, and soft coastal light created an incredible setting for engagement photography.
La Jolla is one of my favorite places in San Diego for couples who want engagement photos that feel both romantic and distinctly Southern California.
There is something about having the ocean in the background that makes every image feel timeless.
From walking along the shoreline to embracing beside the waves, Drew and Hannah were able to simply enjoy being together. Now that the pressure of keeping the proposal a secret was gone, they could finally celebrate their engagement and soak in the moment.
